There is great growth potential for the Indian venture capital industry to compete or even outperform the other large players in the Asia Pacific region and even other global players. As a result, government should assume a supporting role in promoting and developing this industry in order to reap the full benefit of venture capital financing. Moreover, as the characteristics of the Indian venture capital model are totally different from the U.S. and Asian models, a completely new model must be devised. The development of India's venture capital industry is discussed.
